What will I learn at the Photography Summer School?
Take your pictures to the next level with our five-day Photography Summer School. Gain a deep understanding of the technical and aesthetic aspects of photography. Delve into street, portrait, food, product and wildlife photography by learning the tricks of the trade. Develop an efficient workflow and start putting together your own portfolio using the assignments throughout the week.
To attend this photography course you should know your camera’s functions well and have a good understanding of shutter speed, ISO and aperture.

Photography Summer School Content
DAY ONE
On day one you will be focusing on Street Photography. You will take to the streets of London to learn about shooting in a Documentary and Street style.
- Learn how to capture moments in time that tell a story
- Learn how to shoot on the move in a variety of environments
DAY TWO
The different aspects of Portrait Photography will be the focus of day two. Working with a portrait photographer you’ll develop your own style, whilst practising a range of different techniques.
- Experiment with aperture to capture different emotions in your portraits
- Work with natural and artificial lighting to give your portrait a different feel
- Play with composition and framing to create different images
- Learn how to work with a model to give you the photo you want
DAY THREE
For day three you will be looking at Food and Product Photography. You’ll learn how to take impactful and effective images and see how commercial product photography works.
- Use creative set-ups and arrangements for close up product shots
- Use aperture to create interesting backdrops to give texture
- Learn how to light a product with natural and artificial lighting
DAY FOUR
Learn about the essential skills required for successful Wildlife Photography during day four. In a natural environment, you’ll get a hands-on experience of observing and photographing wild animals.
- Develop your timing skills and work on your ‘decisive moment’
- Use stalking skills for an effective photograph
- Experiment with camera modes: manual and shutter/aperture priority
DAY FIVE
Having looked at and tried a range of photography styles throughout the week, the last day of the course will look at portfolio building, workflow and some tips on starting/developing your own photography business.
- Learn basic editing principles to enhance your images
- Receive individual critique and feedback from your tutor on selected images
- Gain insights on managing your own photography business and the necessary skills needed for success.
Is this course for me?
Over the course of five days, this intensive course will cover five different photography genres, each with their own unique aesthetic. You will be given hands-on experience and the technical know-how for each genre, increasing your versatility as a photographer.
Your subjects throughout the five days will include food, products, human models and animals. On the final day, you will receive feedback on your work from the week, learn how to efficiently manage your workflow, and hear tips on how to progress into the professional world of photography.
For the Photography Summer School you will need a digital SLR camera or a professional compact camera with full manual exposure. You will have access to our tripods, studio lighting and speed lites throughout the course. Make sure you have at least one charged battery and an empty memory card for each workshop.
To take part in this course, you’ll also need a good knowledge of camera settings, lenses, and exposure. If you are unsure of the basics, why not try our beginner’s courses to get up to speed?
Is this course for me?
Do you dream of starting a professional wedding photography business? This specialist wedding photography course will give you the variety of skills you need in order to capture the magical moments of a wedding.
This two day course combines planning and theory with a location shoot at a real church with models acting as the bride and groom. We’ll take you through everything you need to know as a wedding photographer, including planning for the unexpected and some of the more business-orientated aspects of the job.
For the Wedding Photography Course you will need a digital SLR camera or a professional compact camera with full manual exposure. You will also require a speedlite or flashgun to capture professional looking images. If you don’t have the correct equipment or accessories then you are welcome to borrow these from Photoion – please just inform us before you course starts.
To take part in this course, you’ll also need a good knowledge of camera settings, lenses, exposure. If you’d like to be a wedding photographer but don’t have the basic skills, why not try one of our beginner’s courses to get up to speed?
