Hello, Photoion students and photography fans. It’s time for another Photo of the Month competition.

Every month we run a competition with a different theme that gives you the opportunity to win £100 in Photoion course vouchers.

This month’s topic will be Reflections.

Reflection photography gives you so many opportunities to create fantastic images. Here are some tips to give you a little inspiration:

  • Experiment with surfaces: The obvious choice for this completion is to use a mirror in your image, but there are many other things that reflect light and can result in stunning images. Still, water, when shot at the right angle, can be like a mirror and give you amazing images, and there are countless other reflective surfaces to choose from.
  • Play with light: A reflection can’t happen without light, but you can experiment you’re your lighting to create different effects. A great example is trying to look out of a window at night when standing in a lit room. The window becomes like a mirror.
  • Explore subtext: Mirrors are a great prop to explore subtext in your images. You can convey one thing in your primary subject, but with the proper composition, lighting, and props, you can have the reflection in the image tell a totally different story.

How to Enter

To enter the Photoion Photo of the Month competition, and be in with a chance at winning the £100 in Photoion course vouchers, send us your best picture using the form below. Images should be in JPEG format, and no smaller than 1000 pixels on their widest side. Only one entry per person is accepted.

Entry opens on Tuesday 1st May 2018 and closes Thursday 23:59 31st May 2018.

The winning entry will be selected by a panel of Photoion Photography School judges. Judges decision is final.
