Workshop in London – with Melissa
Last week our tutor Ion Paciu run a one to one nude photography workshop in Central London featuring Melissa as model. Melissa was fabulous, Ion and his student used a variety of new lighting setups to create appealing art nude images.
The light used was natural light, studio lights (500w monoblocks) and, this time, a very special light source: a projector, yes, he used a projector to illuminate the model. We will list here some of the lighting and settings used in the making.
First image was shot with the model seating on a chair.
Settings: camera in Manual exposure mode (M) – shutter speed 1/160th – 100 ISO – aperture f8.
Lighting: 2 large softboxes, one on the left side at a low angle, second on the right side parallel with the model, simple lighting to create fine shaping lines and shadows and to miss the chair, model appears that is floating.
Second image: the model lying on the floor – bodyscape.
Settings: camera in Manual exposure mode (M) – shutter speed 1/160th – 100 ISO – aperture f11.
Lighting: 2 narrow softboxes, one on the left side, second on the right side, both parallel with the model.

Lighting: 1 large softbox placed on the right side, the second light (a basic reflector) was placed right behind the model – the reflector was intended to add the bright rim light on the arms.

Settings: camera in Manual exposure mode (M) – shutter speed 1/160th – 100 ISO – aperture f11.
Lighting: 1 softbox placed on the left side behind the model, this is one very simple lighting style designed to highlight only the fine edges of the body only.

Settings: camera in Aperture priority mode (A) – shutter speed 1/60th, 1200 ISO – aperture f2.8 – EV -1.
Lighting: modelling lamp from 2 softboxes – left and right – the modelling lamps can be powerful but ISO must be increased considerably in order to achieve the desired exposure.
